August 22 Officially Named Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day (Video)

Local foundation offers educational material for free to every school in America.

Monday was named Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day, a nationally recognized day to honor to work and message of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation.

They celebrated their educational curriculum being available nationally via download with the foundation’s first annual golf outing at Calverton Links.

“The foundation has been tirelessly working all year to get to this point,” said Matthew J. Barbis, the founder and chairman of the foundation.

Barbis is issuing a call to action in honor of the historic day and urging parents, guardians and schools from across the country to go online and download the organizations’ free stranger safety awareness program. It can be accessed by clicking here.

“This is indeed an issue we must pay great attention to, great devotion to,” said Rep. Tim Bishop. “When we send our kids off to school, or when they walk home from whatever it is they’re doing after school, we want to have a sense of confidence that they’re safe. We also want them to know and have the tools that they need. I have great hope in the impact [this program] will have for thousands and thousands of families.”

Through an educational committee, a curriculum was built to state standards and tested. The results were positive across the board and now the foundation is hoping for similar results throughout America and beyond.

“We’re doing what we can as individuals and we’re coming together,” Barbis said. “We’re going to withstand and be that force to child predators.”

“We’re proactive,” said Pat Chierichella. “We’re trying to educate children before something happens. We don’t want to react to something. We don’t want a tragedy to occur. We want a child to be able to walk away from danger. By presenting our material in an engaging and interactive way, we believe children can learn from our program.”
