All-Sachem Patch Fall 2010 Selections

A look at the top athletes in Sachem from the past few months.

The following athletes have been selected as part of the All-Sachem Patch team for the fall of 2010. Every athlete on this list was selected by the coaches at Sachem High Schools East and North.

First Team

Michael Andreassi, Sachem North Football: He rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 16 touchdowns in his final season with the Black & Gold. One of the top players in the county, he finished his Sachem career as the eighth all-time leading rusher in school history with 1,960 yards on 303 career carries. He also scored 25 career touchdowns. 

Angelo Armine, Sachem North Football: Armine, a senior All-County quarterback, rushed for over 600 yards, 265 of which came in the Suffolk County championship. He was named the MVP for the title game and finished his career with 999 rushing yards and 613 passing yards. He has also thrown eight career touchdowns, which place him fifth all-time in Sachem history.

Meghan Azralon: Sachem East Girls Swimming, Azralon had an amazing senior season with the team. She is a 5-year varsity diver and will be missed next year. Every meet she was ready to compete and help her team win. During the season she re-broke her own school record in the 6 dive format with a score of 206.47.

Lucas Brum, Sachem East Football: The senior offensive/defensive lineman was an All-County and First Team All-Division selection this year. He was also selected to the National Football Foundation's Golden 11, which is the top 11 scholar football athletes in the county.

Kristin Butzke, Sachem East Girls Soccer: The League I Player of the Year was hands-down one of the best soccer players in Suffolk County this year. She was All-League, All-Conference and All-County. 

Jessica Caruana, Sachem East Field Hockey: The junior defender was an All-Conference player in 2009 and an All-County Honorable Mention selection in 2010. She is a two-year starter, and an Empire State Game Silver Medalist. "Since her sophomore year, and now through her junior year, she has played a key role in the defensive end," said head coach Tina Moon. "She has made many defensive saves in our defensive end and created offensive opportunities."

Randall Colson, Sachem East Boys Volleyball: The junior middle blocker was also an All-County selection. 

Dalton Crossan, Sachem North Football: He transferred to Sachem prior to the season and quickly became a fan favorite. Thankfully he's back for another year next season because his 20 touchdowns (15 rushing, 2 returns, 1 receiving, 2 interceptions run back) were electrifying. He already has over 970 rushing yards and needs a little over 500 to crack the top 10 list for Sachem's historical totals. 

Joe DiRienzo, Sachem East Cross Country: He was named First Team All-County, All-Division, All-League and the fastest junior in Suffolk County for the 5K at Sunken Meadow with a time of 16:15. He placed second at Divisions and the state qualifier, is ranked No. 10 in New York State and is a scholar athlete.

Jillian Donodeo, Sachem East Field Hockey: A three-year starter, in 2008 she was All-County Honorable Mention, and in 2009 and 2010 All-County and All-Tournament. She was first in total points (22), second in scoring and first in assists. Head coach Tina Moon said, "she has undeliverable talent and speed and is an impact player help put us in the county final game." 

Cheryl Fetky, Sachem North Girls Volleyball: Fetky, a senior, was the starting setter for the 2010 season, averaging over 25 assists per match. She has received All-League honors for her work on the court.

Kelly Gochan, Sachem North Girls Tennis: She is a five-year varsity starter and was named All-Division and All-League as a junior and senior. Gochan was ranked as the No. 1 singles player at North the last two years.

Alyssa Gutierrez, Sachem East Girls Soccer: She was named Suffolk County Goalkeeper of the Year and was selected All-League, All-Conference and All-County. With about a dozen shutouts, her skills will be missed while she's off playing college soccer at SUNY Binghamton. 

Amanda Hallstein, Sachem East Girls Volleyball: As a junior setter, Hallstein established herself as a leader on her team. She'll be back next year as one of the better players in the league. 

Brendan Jones, Sachem East Boys Volleyball: He was a senior outside hitter and lead the team in kills. He made the All-County Academic Team and was an All-League selection. 

Tim Lang, Sachem North Football: A two-sport athlete, he was a center on the offensive line and end on defense. His leadership skills, tackling ability, and football IQ were tremendous. He'll take his skills to the college lacrosse scene and play at UMBC next year. 

Andrea Licostie, Sachem North Girls Field Hockey: An All-County selection this season, she helped the Arrows reach the playoffs and make a valiant run. 

Rich Lupo, Sachem North Boys Volleyball: The senior outside hitter was the captain of the volleyball team this year. He led the team in total kills (156), kills per match (8.7), and digs (72). Lupo was the focal point of North's offense and led his team to a League I playoff birth and was selected as one of 10 All-County players in League I. 

Melissa McKeveny, Sachem East Field Hockey: A two-year captain and two-year starter, she was All-County Honorable Mention last season and an All-County selection this year. McKeveny was an Empire State Game Silver Medalist, made a huge impact on the defensive end and sparked the offense with her poise and stick skills. 

Erin McNulty, Sachem North Girls Soccer: She was the anchor of a very stingy defense. Her ability to command the defense and high work rate are a great combination. 

Samantha Picco, Sachem North Girls Volleyball: Picco is a senior outside hitter and led the team in kills and digs for the 2010 season. She has received All-League, All-Conference and All-Tournament Team awards from the coaches association.

Jon Potter, Sachem East Boys Soccer: The senior defender was also an All-Conference selection this season. 

Alex Saavedra, Sachem East Cross Country: One of the best athletes in Sachem East history, he was named First Team All-State, All-County, All-Division, All-League, and was a scholar athlete. He was a county champion and had the fastest time in the Suffolk 5K at Sunken Meadow since 2004. Saavedra was the fastest Sachem county champ in Sachem's history 16:00 and is ranked No. 1 in the state.

Jesse Scanna, Sachem North Football: One of the best football players in New York State this year, Scanna will go down as the best linebacker in Sachem history thanks to his 320 career tackles – a program record. He is also 11th all-time in rushing with 1,503 yards on 168 carries. He averaged 10.6 yards a carry this season and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground. 

Alyssa Sobel, Sachem East Girls Volleyball: She was a leader, a key contributor and was often in box scores for helping East in many statistical categories each match. 

Lindsey Spatola, Sachem North Field Hockey: One of North's outstanding offensive threats this season, she was on the score sheet just about every game.

David Stroh, Sachem North Soccer: The senior midfielder was a team captain and led the Arrows in scoring with five goals and four assists. He won the Coach Don Wooley MVP Award and Lake Grove Soccer Club Scholarship this season as well.

James Thompson, Sachem North Football: A two-time All-County selection, he was one of the best linemen in the county this season. He was a nominee for the Zellner Award given to Suffolk's top lineman, but came up short. He was a key reason Sachem was able to rush for over 3,500 yards back-to-back seasons. 

Ashlee Thompson, Sachem North Girls Soccer: Thompson was the team's biggest scoring threat this past season. Her speed and aggressiveness made her a force in each and every game, according to head coach Claude Amallobietta. 

Andrew Tinari, Sachem East Boys Soccer: He scored two goals and recorded seven assists en route to his All-Conference selection. 

Morgan Tinari, Sachem East Girls Soccer: The sophomore midfielder was also selected All-League, All-Conference and All-County this year. 

Katie Trombetta, Sachem East Field Hockey: Only a freshman, she's a two-year starter at midfield. She was All-County Honorable Mention in 2009 and in 2010 an All-County selection. Trombetta was first in goals with 15 and second in assists. "She has made a huge impact on the team since last year and stepped up even more for us to qualify as a county finalist this season," said head coach Tina Moon. 

Rachel Vazquez, Sachem East Girls Cross Country: She was an All-County runner, and had the fastest time of any runner for East girls at this year's Section XI Division Championships with a 20:57 finish. 

Chris Weilbacher, Sachem North Soccer: He was a senior defender, team captain and played through parts of the season with a broken wrist this year. He was awarded the Coach Frank Schmidt Outstanding Defensive MVP Award and the Sachem Youth Soccer League Scholarship as well.

Keira Wood, Sachem North Girls Cross Country: Wood was the team's Most Valuable Runner, All-County, All-Division, All-League and a captain in her senior season. 

Valerie Zeffiro, Sachem East Girls Swimming: "She was a huge asset to our team this fall," said head coach Kathleen Dugan. "She is an extremely hard worker and her hard work paid off this season." Besides consistently winning her individual events all season, she qualified for the New York State meet. She represented Sachem East and Section XI in the New York State Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo. Zeffiro had a personal best in the 100-b ackstroke, 1:00.05; re-breaking her own school record.

Second Team

Jessica Alessi, Sachem East Girls Swimming: Alessi was a 5 year varsity swimmer and a great teammate. She was one of the teams captains this year and a great role model for the younger swimmers. Throughout the season she mainly competed in the 200 IM, 100 Fly, and 100 Back.

Tyler Andreassi, Sachem North Football: Only a sophomore, Andreassi will follow in his brother's footsteps and be a leader on the football and lacrosse teams for seasons to come. He was used at the end position on the line, caught a pass, and filled in during various situations on the field. He's versatile and strong. 

Matt Bonomini, Sachem East Boys Soccer: He was the last line of defense as the goalkeeper this year for Sachem and kept the Arrows in multiple games. 

Rob Bruno, Sachem East Football: He was a wide receiver and defensive back this season and also selected for Second Team All-Division.

Steven Casali, Sachem East Football: Known as the "man child," Casali is a sophomore and has a promising future in both football and wrestling. He was a running back and linebacker in his first varsity football season and was also selected Second Team All-Division this year.

Trent Crossan, Sachem North Football: He is just the third freshman in Sachem history to play varsity football. He rushed 22 times for 272 yards, averaged 12.36 yards per carry, rushed for one touchdown and ran an interception back for a touchdown as well. By the time his fourth year is up, he'll easily be Sachem's all-time leading rusher. 

Brenna Dowd, Sachem East Girls Swimming: This was only the sophomore's second season on the varsity team, but she was a big asset to the teams success. Dowd was primarily the team's long distance swimmer, competing in the 200 and 500 free most of the season. "We have high hopes for continued success for Brenna next season.," head coach Kathleen Dugan said.

Anthony Ferrera, Sachem East Boys Soccer: The senior midfielder was an All-League pick this season also. 

Brianna Harris, Sachem North Girls Soccer: Harris, a junior defender, is a highly effective sweeper, combining speed, strength and great timing. 

Kelly Lavan, Sachem North Girls Cross Country: She was All-Division, All-League the team's Will-to-Win Athlete and the No. 2 runner at North all season.

Eric Link, Sachem East Boys Soccer: The senior defender was an All-League selection this year too. 

Danielle Levine, Sachem North Girls Volleyball: Levine was a first time varsity player, who earned a starting position during the 2010 season. She averaged double digit kills per match during the season and received All-League honors.

Mike McCarthy, Sachem North Football: He ran and passed for his first varsity touchdowns this season and was a leader on both sides of the ball, especially on defense where is presence was needed. 

Billy Merone, Sachem East Football:  The running back/defensive back was one of the top players on East's team this year, despite adversity and finishing 0-8. He was a Second Team All-Division pick too.

Corley Miller, Sachem East Girls Swimming: She helped the team in any way she could, always stepping up when needed, head coach Kathleen Dugan said. Her main events this season were the 200 Free, 200 IM, and 100 Fly.

Michael Moynihan, Sachem East Boys Volleyball: The senior outside hitter was also selected All-League and to the All-County Academic Team. 

Chelsea Palma, Sachem North Field Hockey: She was also an All-County Honorable Mention this season. 

Brianna Phillips, Sachem East Girls Soccer: She was an All-League and All-Conference selection this year. The senior striker was clutch on offense when it was needed.

Alyssa Picascio, Sachem East Girls Soccer: The junior defender was also selected All-League and All-Conference this year.

Jenna Rosado, Sachem East Girls Volleyball: Her head coach nominated her for leadership and ability. She was a consummate team player. 

Jon Rottkamp, Sachem North Boys Soccer: He was a team captain and head coach Chris Russo said he was a consistent performer. Rottkamp also earned the team's scholar athlete award.

Ryan Scarpelli, Sachem East Cross Country: He was an All-County First Team, All-Division First Team and All-League selection this year. Scarpelli is a junior whose impressive first year on varsity helped East secure a second place finish in the county meet. He ran a 17:40 in the division meet. One week later he ran a 16:54 and became 10th overall in Suffolk.

Victoria Schmidt, Sachem North Girls Field Hockey: She was also an All-County Honorable Mention selection this season. 

Kellie Sfraga, Sachem North Girls Soccer: Time and time again, she was able to thwart the opposing team's playmaker. Quick, strong and smart, she was a dominant player from her defensive position. 

Steve Surico, Sachem North Boys Volleyball: The junior middle blocker was the most explosive player for Sachem. He led the team in blocks (51), aces (26) and Serving Pct. He also had a hitting pct of .362 and was First Team All-League.

Lindsey Treanor, Sachem East Girls Volleyball: The future college softball player, who will attend Gettysburg, has been a standout volleyball player throughout her time at East.
