Opinion Regarding Candice Rudd's Column "Consultant May Look at Project" in Islip Town

Islip Towns recent recommendation to hire a Manhattan based consultant to steer the fate of our suburban communities is not only short sited, it is ourtirght irresponsible.

Regarding Candice Rudd's column (June 28) "Consultant May Look at Project" in Islip Town,  is a sad testament to our Town's ability to plan.

The recent recommendation to hire a Manhattan based consultant to steer the fate of our suburban communities is not only short sited, it is outright irresponsible.

With Bayport and Patchogue Rising, Holbrook's Main Street revitalizing, Sayville's downtown re-energizing and the Ronkonkoma Hub strategically formalizing, what we do not need is another "Form-Based Code."

Serota's Development Plan, which will undoubtedly be endorsed by Serota's financed consultant, would irreparably harm the landscape of suburbia.  Notwithstanding, it would be a huge detriment to our neighboring down-towns ability to succeed.

What we should be advocating is a policy that is Pareto-Optimal. One that helps retain our fleeing youth,  provides security for our returning veterans and fortifies a  substantial revenue base  that will support our school district.

What we need is middle class housing.

Serota should develop a legacy of medium sized, single family homes, with a purchase price of 260K.

Let Long Island's history be our guide.  There is only one way to help our economy thrive.  We must promote the rise of our middle class.
