Flaming Arrows: The Running Game vs. The Passing Game

Analysis of the Flaming Arrows running and passing games.

It has become obvious that over the past few years the recipe for success for the Flaming Arrows is the running game. Whether it be from the quarterback position in Angelo Armine and now Trent Crossan, or the backfield with the now graduated Jesse Scanna and Dalton Crossan for the past two seasons, the key to every Flaming Arrows win is their ability to move the ball by foot.

Now, this raises the question: Exactly how long can they get along without passing the ball? Well, after two double-digit wins against Bay Shore and Northport, it seems like the run game is just fine.

I do not mean to say that it is not. However, what if the Flaming Arrows did pass the ball more than just a few times a game? Developing the passing game would just make the already dominant North offense even more potent.

With sophomore quarterback Trent Crossan under center, it would take a little bit of time to develop, but there is no reason to believe that Crossan cannot develop into an effective passer.

Combined with his brother's ground attack out of the backfield, this would only make the Flaming Arrows that much better. The team's dependency on the run is very, very high right now. Should something go wrong for some reason, it is always nice to have a back-up plan. Easier said than done, but do not be surprised to see the ball soar a few more times in the coming weeks.
