Staples Closes in Lake Grove

Shuttering comes more than a year after company opened another Staples a mile away.

The Staples in Lake Grove has closed, nearly a year and a half after the office supplies chain opened a newer storefront just a mile away in Stony Brook.

As of Monday, workers were taking down the signs at the former DSW plaza storefront, and signs saying the store was closed covered most of the windows.

"We are making efforts to offer transfer options to associates who want to remain with the company to other Staples locations," spokeswoman Kaitlyn Reardon said in an email.

Reardon did not say if any employees were transferred across Route 347, where in winter 2012 Staples opened a store in the former Office Max in Stony Brook.

As Staple leaves Lake Grove, however, Fairway Market is getting ready to move in to the same shopping center. That market should open in Spring 2014.
