Sachem Patch Movie Guide

A look at the local options when you're in the mood for a flick.

For most, the traditional date is simply dinner and a movie. While Sachem has many places to grab a bite, the selection of movie theaters is somewhat specific. However, the main theaters in Sachem are district staples, and ones which are familiar to most. Here's a look at what Sachem has to offer:

Regal Ronkonkoma 9: 565 Portion Rd., Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 (631) 580-9714

If you live in Sachem, you have most likely visited Regal Cinemas at one point or another. Located conveniently near Sachem North, Regal has always been a hangout for the high school. The cinema offers the option of buying tickets in advance, either at the theater, online at Fandango.com or by phone at (800)fandango, using Theater Code 279. Regal also offers the Regal Crown Club where members can earn points towards free popcorn drinks and movies. Gift cards are available in $25 and $50 denominations. On average, the earliest Showtime is 1 p.m. and latest feature begins at 10 p.m.

Island 16: 185 Morris Avenue Holtsville, NY 11742 (631) 758-9100

Newest to Sachem movie theaters is Island 16, which opened in 2002. Island 16 has been a very popular addition to the Sachem community, located near multiple fast food and restaurant locations just off the Long Island Expressway. The theater offers a variety of options including their fours Director's Halls, premium theaters with leather seats, which allow moviegoers to choose their specific seats and place their orders for popcorn and soda through a waitress-type service.

The small fee which is associated with the halls covers the additional accommodations. Every Monday Island 16 offers "Silver Screens," which highlights movies from as early as the 30's and 40's. Admission is $2 and free popcorn and soda are offered. Finally, Island 16 offers the Starpass program, which is free to join and allows patrons to accumulate points for free tickets, popcorn and soda.

While Regal and Island 16 represent the traditional movie theaters in the district, Sachem also has two movie rental locations if you are in the mood for movie night at home. They include:

Blockbuster Video: 600 Portion Road Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 (631) 467-8450

Video Mart: 711 Horseblock Road Farmingville, NY 11739 (631) 732-3777

Next time you're in the mood for a movie remember that you have two main options in the Sachem district regarding theaters, with each offering their own special advantages. Additionally, if you're spending the night at home, movie rental locations are an option.
