Sachem Theaters Issue Statements Following Colorado Shootings

Regal Cinemas says it will "adjust our security needs as necessary" after 12 killed during showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado.

The parent companies of both movie theaters in the Sachem-area have released statements regarding security following the deadly shootings at a Colorado theater early Friday morning. 

Regal Cinemas, which runs the Ronkonkoma Stadium 9 theater on Portion Road, issued this statement on its Facebook page:

"We are profoundly saddened by the tragedy that occurred at a Denver area theatre and are concerned for the victims and their families. The security and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority. As is our custom, we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our security needs as necessary. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."

National Amusements, which operates the Island 16 theater in Holtsville, also released a statement on Facebook:

"We share the shock and sadness of everyone in the exhibition community at the news of the tragedy in Colorado. The safety of our patrons and staff is of the utmost importance to us. For that reason, we do not discuss the internal security measures we have in place, but we are reviewing those measures with our theatre personnel."

More than 70 people were shot, with 12 fatalities, during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado on Friday. A 24-year-old man was  in the theater's parking lot in connection with the shootings.

Suffolk County Police have there will be "increased patrols" at theaters in light of the tragedy.
