Q&A: Auto Repair Shop

How is this specific business fairing in recent economic conditions?

Ronk Service has been fixing the cars of those in the Sachem community for 30 years. But with the economy slow, how has this put the brakes on their business? It has been reported, in a recession people are known to hold onto old cars. However, many customers are holding off on big-time jobs and routine manintance.

Sachem Patch spoke with Mike Clark, second genreation owner of Ronk Service.

Sachem Patch: Has your business been affected because of the recession?

Ronk Service: Yes because pople are getting the minimal amount of work done in order to make their vehicle safe.

SP: Have you noticed the customers have been taking better care of their cars?

RS: No. They have been putting off repairs as long as they possibly can.

SP: Has their been an increase in customers who are hoping to repair their older cars, rather than buying new ones?

RS: Of course, they cannot afford a new car or just do not want another monthly payment.

SP: What are some methods Ronk Service have put into affect to increase profit?

RS: We have negotiated the terms of our mortage and cut monthly bills.

SP: Ronk Service is known for dealing with local businesses. Has working with other businesses who are taking the recession hard, affected your business?

RS: Customers with businesses cannot pay their bills on time and therefore cannot afford to do business with us.

SP: Have you impletmented payment plans for customers?

RS: No, but we do provide accounts for other bussiness who have to pay in a timely fashion.

SP: In your 30 years of work, do you ever remember business being this way?

RS: It is worse than it was in the mid '80s.

SP: Have your employees been affected by the slow of business?

RS: Yes. Unfortantly, we were not able to fit a pay increase into our budget for this year.

SP: Has there ever been advertising for Ronk Service?

RS: Recently, we began advertising on Google and Facebook. We also have coupon on our Website. This has brought in new customers.
