LIRR Rolls Out Phase Two Of Summer-Long Construction Work

Second portion of work on Ronkonkoma line slated to begin today.

Commuters on the Ronkonkoma line of the LIRR are inching a bit closer to the completion of a summer-long construction and rehabilitation project. The LIRR is replacing wooden ties from Ronkonkoma to Farmingdale, and has moved into Phase 2 of the project, slated to last until July 20.

The replacement project takes place during weekdays and affects westbound departure times at the Ronkonkoma station. Trains have been adjusted to depart Ronkonkoma at 9:41, 10:41 and 11:41 a.m., and 12:41, 1:41, and 2:41p.m.

According to a service announcement on the LIRR’s website, the tie replacement, when finished, will lead to “greater service reliability and a smoother, more comfortable ride for customers.”
