Bavarian Inn Edging Towards Final Steps of Foreclosure Process

Legis. Kennedy's office says there is substantial sum of unpaid property taxes.

If you’ve driven past the Bavarian Inn in Lake Ronkonkoma recently not much as changed from an aesthetic point of view.

According to Suffolk County Legis. John Kennedy, however, foreclosure on the property is in the final steps, and a representative from his office said they anticipate that it be concluded very soon.

The same representative said there is a substantial sum of unpaid property taxes on the facility.

A directive has been issued to the Town of Smithtown Building Department to assess the Inn for structural integrity, Kennedy said.

Based on the findings of this investigation, measures up to and including demolition of the structure may be recommended.

“We have every reason to expect that the county will be acquiring the property, hopefully within the next six months,” Kennedy said in a statement. “Once acquired, the property would be annexed to the adjacent Lake Ronkonkoma County Park.”

Repeated basement and property flooding caused the eatery to close down. In the few years since it was shut down, in addition to flooding, the Bavarian Inn has been entrenched in tribulations that include a fire, break-ins and heroin addicts using it as a place to get high.

The property is presently sitting in limbo as one of the mortgage holders, Business Loan Center, filed Chapter 11 last year.
