Letter to the Editor: Dangerous Intersection

A concerned resident speaks out about dangerous Holbrook intersection.

The following letter was sent to Sachem Patch from a Holbrook resident concerned about a spate of car accidents at the intersection of Holbrook Road and Expressway Drive North.

Not sure how to actually go about this, but I believe this is a news worthy item. The corner of Holbrook Road and Expressway Drive North has been the scene of numerous accidents (some fatal).

This morning yet another car accident occurred... I could not even bare to go help (I live nearby) as the last time I did I watched an innocent young girl die (that time at the hands of an alleged ).

This signal has been a problem to say the least since I've lived here and I am sure with your background and expertise you could find records of these accidents and start some type of discussion on how this can be fixed.

The only other option is to do nothing and wait for the next one, hoping it's not fatal. Something as simple as a "no turn on red"  and changing signal times would, I feel, greatly reduce the number of accidents. What cannot be helped is the "clear run" of no lights or stop signs the drivers on the expressway service road have from Waverly Avenue to Holbrook Road.  Speeding is an issue here as well.

I hope this goes further than this e-mail and some type of action takes place.

What do you think? Has anyone else found this intersection to be problematic? Let us know in the comments section.
