Police: Teen Dies, Passengers Injured In Medford Crash

Driver issued summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, says police.

A Middle Island teenager was killed and three other teens were injured in car crash that happened early Friday morning in Medford.

According to police, a 17-year-old from Medford was driving a 2002 Toyota with three teen passengers northbound on Gray Avenue in Medford at 1:20 a.m., when he apparently lost control of the car, struck a tree and overturned. The 16-year-old passenger from Middle Island was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The driver, the Middle Island teen and a 17-year-old male passenger from Medford were all taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where the Middle Island teenager was pronounced dead and the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The third male passenger, a 15-year-old, was transported to Saint Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or call anonymously to 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
