Sachem Library Hosts Annual Art Show

Talented artists, photographers on hand with eye-catching work.

Passion, talent, and artistic eyes filled the Sachem Public Library for the annual outdoor art show Sunday.

Siblings Seana and Colin Grey of Levittown displayed their photography side by side.  Photography is a hobby that runs in the family and talent is inbreeded within their gene pool.

"I have never taken a class," said Seana Grey, who traveled abroad during her last semester in college to Australia, Magnolia, and Tahiti and took pictures to cherish her time there.  Her glamorous photographs took viewers into another hemisphere.

Colin Grey explained he has a hobby of collecting beach glass. When he collected enough he was inspired to create a piece of a shrimp with a seashore feel, which was displayed at the show.  Being a lifeguard on Jones Beach, Colin's photographs showed a fascinating side of Long Island in a powerful way. When asked what inspired his photography and paintings he said his father-in-law, Robert Silvering.

Silvering displayed his advanced photography and discussed his technique with enthusiasm.

"I always have my camera with me and am constantly looking for a perfect picture," Silvering said.  His knowledge of photography has come from pure interest in his hobby. Silvering said he takes photographs because he enjoys it as well as displaying them.

Most of the artists were located inside due to weather but this did not stop prospective buyers from discovering meaningful paintings, sculptors, or photographs to connect with.

Aleksandra Markovich, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, displayed her pet portraits at the show. With a wider range of love for art from prints to water colors, Markovich decided to put her focus into one kind of art -drawing. The Brookhaven resident now draws portraits of four legged friends.

Professional artist and teacher Renee Wegodsky displayed her art work after taking a year off. Wegodsky's creative pieces caught the eye of many viewers and fellow artists.

"[Sachem Public Library] asked us to draw pictures of Inside Out," she explained while pointing out her newest piece of the recently unveiled garden.

A natural talent who worked in the textile design, she changed artistic paths midway through life and now focuses on herself in her artwork. The library couldn't find a more perfect fit for this year's gallery.
