Meet The Authors At Sachem Public Library

Library will host Nicole Georges, and Sachem Alum Cassie J. Sneider for meet and greet.

When Nicole Georges was two years old, her family told her that her father was dead. When she was 23, a psychic told her he was alive. Her sister, saddled with guilt, admitted that the psychic was right and that the whole family had conspired to keep him a secret. Sent into a tailspin about her identity, Nicole turned to radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger for advice.

Part coming-of-age and part coming-out story, Calling Dr. Laura marks the arrival of an exciting new voice in graphic literature. Nicole J. Georges is an award-winning zinester and illustrator living in Portland, Oregon. She will be appearing with Cassie J. Sneider, a 2001 Sachem graduate, highly acclaimed storyteller, and author of Fine Fine Music, a hilarious memoir about growing up in Lake Ronkonkoma and getting into rock & roll, at the Sachem Public Library on Friday, March 15 at 7pm.

Following a slideshow and reading, Nicole and Cassie will offer a life-guidance Q&A featuring Cassie’s advice on living your dreams while growing up as a “weirdo” on Long Island.

"Nicole Georges' Calling Dr. Laura is an engrossing, lovable, smart and ultimately poignant trip through a harrowing emotional bottleneck in family life. It's great art, great writing, a great story- I can't wait for what's next from Nicole. What a wonderful book." -Rachel Maddow, MSNBC

"Nicole Georges spins a riveting family mystery. There's a powerful chemistry going on between her delicate drawings and the probing honesty of her investigations. Calling Dr. Laura is disarming and haunting, hip and sweet, all at once." -Alison Bechdel, author of Fun Home
