Ribbon Cutting for DesTEENation at the Library

On Friday evening, June 1st, Sachem Public Library will officially open DESTEENATION, an innovative new teen space.  DESTEENATION incorporates a quiet area for independent study, reading, and homework; and an active area, with a stage, and areas for video gaming, computer gaming, and socializing.  In addition, shelving for fiction, non-fiction, and Manga collections has been expanded, and teens now have a collaborative workspace as well as access to music and video production technology. The square footage designated for teens has more than doubled.

“We see more and more teens using the library, and we wanted to enrich their library experience with a welcoming, interactive, learning environment in which they can do school work, engage in activities led by staff, work on independent projects, or just socialize,” said Teen Department Head Susan Tychnowicz.

At the ribbon cutting on June 1, local teens will demonstrate their musical talents, and light refreshments will be served.
