Al Calderon Makes Top 10 Boys on X-Factor

The Sachem East Grad wooed the judges with Hall & Oats' "Sara Smile."

It's been two years since Al Calderon performed in Sachem East's talent show, but now, the 19 year-old has excelled in front of a national audience.

Before the show, Calderon was a host and designated happy birthday singer at a restaurant, and Demi Lovato informed him that those days are over.

"I have a feeling you’re not going to be working at that restaurant anymore, so say goodbye.” she said.

Calderon sang Hall & Oats' hit "Sara Smile," which really impressed Kelly Rowland.

"If I were a teen, then I would want you to take me out on a date," Kelly Rowland said.

"We don't have a time machine," Simon Cowell responded.

"There were some tuning issues on that song,” Cowell added. “But I’m going to put that down to inexperience and nerves. The potential of your voice, coupled with the way that you look, you’re charisma…I believe the music business is waiting for someone like you right now."

Calderon was overtaken with emotion after getting four yeses from the judges, but it was Cowell's words that really stuck with him.

"I don’t even have words right now," he said. “What Simon said to me…I’m taking that all the way."

Calderon, and the other boys, will be mentored by Paulina Rubio. You can stay posted with Calderon's progress by watching the X-Factor on FOX Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m.
