The Sachem community is filled with special people who make a difference, people who make an impact on our lives on a regular, sometimes daily, basis.
There are educators, business owners, volunteers, public officials, clergy members and others working to make Sachem a better place.
Sachem's outpouring of support for people recovering from Hurricane Sandy was remarkable, and Sachem East High School was a shelter for many displaced residents on the south shore. School leaders motivated students to acheive above and beyond what anyone thought they were capable of, and taught valuable lessons in perserverence and class. Our local Fire Departments answered the call each time it was needed.
Sachem Patch is compiling a list of 10 local people who mattered in 2012. To kick things off, we're nominating Sachem East Head Football Coach Mark Wojciechowski, not only for the outstanding job he did taking a varsity football program from the basement to the Suffolk County Championship game, but for doing so just months after his home was destroyed by a fire. His leadership earned our respect, and we don't think we're alone in our admiration. He's our nomination, but we need your help.
Nominate candidates in the comment section below, or write on our Facebook page.
Please give us the person's name and the reason they belong on this list.
