Town of Islip to Host Earth Week Festivities

Announces educational run-down of events for next week.

The Town of Islip has announced an educational line-up for Earth Week and will be holding an environmental event each day next week, between Earth Day, April 22, and concluding with the Annual Sayville Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 30.

According to the town, the following events will take place:

  • Monday, April 25: Earth Week will open with an interactive tour of the Town’s shellfish hatchery and a boat trip to the site of the Town’s brand new aquaculture program.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: The town will hold events at various recycling facilities to encourage resident participation and highlight some of the advances in recycling.
  • Friday, April 29: Councilman John Edwards will announce the grand opening of the Town of Islip Green Homes program, at a new Bay Shore office.
  • The Aquaculture boat tour will begin at noon, on April 25, with a brief press conference and tour at the Shellfish Hatchery on Bayview Ave., East Islip. The boat will leave from there and visit the site of a local resident’s newly leased baybottom, followed by a stop at the Blue Island Shellfish aquaculture operation. If you are interested in attending the aquaculture boat trip and learning more about how this new public-private partnership approach will help clean up the Bay, please contact the Town of Islip Public Information Office to reserve a seat at 224-5485 or publicinfo2@townofislip-ny.gov.
