Things To Do On The Cheap This Weekend

A quick roundup of events happening in Sachem on a tight budget.

Winter time can be a depressing period on Long Island. It's a time when outdoor cafe's shutter and music in the park goes silent. It's also a time when budgets can be at the year's tightest, right after Christmas and before the tax man comes to the door.

Here's a look at some low-exense events taking place in Sachem this weekend to help you get out of the house without breaking the bank.

Chinese Auction at Gatelot

Friday, January 18

For just $5, join organizers at Gatelot Elementary School tonight for its annual Chinese Auction. Follow the link to our events page on Patch. The event features dozens of baskets and raffle prizes to win. Admission includes 5 raffles tickets and free refreshments. Grand prizes include: 4 Walt Disney World Tickets with a Southwest Airlines giftcard, American Girl Doll and a flat screen T.V. to name a few. Doors open at 6:15, auction begins at 7:30!

Dancing for Daniel

Friday, January 18

Head to Tamarac Elementary school tonight at 7 p.m. and for just $10 you can dance the night away with Zumba instructors for a good cause. The event is named after Daniel Joseph Schnell, who was born last July and has neurological and developmental issues due to some debilitating seizures. The evening was created to help alleviate some of the Family’s financial stresses, enabling them to concentrate on Daniel’s much needed care. There will be a raffle and prizes at this event as well.
