The Great Escape: Island 16

Have some free time? Take a trip to one of the biggest movie theaters around.

If the last time you went to the movies it was to see a 3D animated blockbuster, than perhaps it is time for you to take a mental health day from your normal routine and see a movie you actually want to watch.

Like a classic black and white movie on the big screen. If that is not enough of a push to get you to go, the price of the movie might do the trick-it's only $2 for anyone who attends.

It is part of National Amusements Theatres “Silver Screens Classics” program which takes place every Monday at 1 p.m. in select theatres. Island 16 Cinema in Holtsville participates in this series, and February's lineup is already set.

Decide which movie you want to see and your great escape from reality for an afternoon is as good as done. The movie on Feb. 7 is “The Young Land” from 1959 starring Dennis Hopper; the one on Feb. 14 is “Indiscreet” from 1931 starring Gloria Swanson and the movie on Feb. 28 is “Of Human Bondage” from 1934 starring Bette Davis. (There is no showing on Presidents Day, Monday, February 21).

You can go by yourself, have your significant other join you, or make it a whole day event with some friends. Meet for coffee or lunch first, catch up on each other's lives then head over to the theatre.
