Some Places Offering Free Meals on Thanksgiving

A wrap of local centers, churches offering a free hot meal for those in need.

Many of us often take it for granted that we have homes and families to visit for a hot meal, football and great company on Thanksgiving Day. But many aren't so fortunate. Especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there are thousands of Long Islanders without homes, displaced from their communities and in need of a hot meal. Below is a small list of centers in the Sachem community that Patch was able to confirm are offering free Thanksgiving meals to those who need it most.

  • Calvary Chapel Island of Grace. 1680 Railroad Avenue; Holbrook. Food will be served from 12 p.m to 2 p.m. "Bring as many people as you like," said the Calvary Chapel spokesperson.
  • Abundant Life Church of God. 440 Furrows Road; Holbrook. Food will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Please note: according to a spokesperson for the church, there are some pre-registered meals already accounted for, but anticipation is that there will be about 100 free meals left for those who arrive.
  • Farmingville Food Share. Corner of Horseblock Road and Woodycrest Drive; Farmingville. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
  • Village of Faith Church. 1070 Portion Road; Farmingville . Food will be served from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Food pantry open all week.
