Many of us often take it for granted that we have homes and families to visit for a hot meal, football and great company on Thanksgiving Day. But many aren't so fortunate. Especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there are thousands of Long Islanders without homes, displaced from their communities and in need of a hot meal. Below is a small list of centers in the Sachem community that Patch was able to confirm are offering free Thanksgiving meals to those who need it most.

- Abundant Life Church of God. 440 Furrows Road; Holbrook. Food will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Please note: according to a spokesperson for the church, there are some pre-registered meals already accounted for, but anticipation is that there will be about 100 free meals left for those who arrive.
