Update: Snowfall Arrives in Sachem Communities

Between 7.7 to 11.3 inches has fallen across the Sachem area as of Friday morning.

Update: 2:49 p.m.: The National Weather Service has updated their snowfall counts, and they are much higher than reported earlier Friday morning. Farmingville has received 11.3 inches, Islip Airport 11.2 inches, Holbrook 8 inches and Ronkonkoma 7.7 inches. Original story from Friday morning is below:

Between 6.5 to 9.2 inches has fallen across the Sachem area as of Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

In the totals so far Farmingville has the most in the area with 9.2 inches, followed by Islip Airport with 8.9 inches and Holbrook with 6.5 inches.

A few more inches may be on their way as the storm continues throughout the day.

According to Mike Silva, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Office in Upton, the storm held no surprises.

"This pretty much panned out exactly as we expected," he said. "We expected six to 10 inches of snow, with maybe a little bit higher out east. Some places managed to touch a foot."

Winds, however, weren't quite as fierce as initially predicted, but were starting to pick up Friday morning, with "very dangerous" temperatures across Long Island. With the wind chill factor, some areas felt as though it were minus 11 degrees, with a range of minus three to minus eight.

Temperatures are not expected to rise higher than the upper teens for most of Long Island Friday.

Two last bands of snow are slated to continue moving across Long Island Friday morning, one in Suffolk County and one over northern Nassau; another inch or two of snow will fall by 1 p.m., when the white stuff should disappear from the area completely.
