Sachem Public Library Gets High Rating By Industry Journal

Blogger reports that the Holbrook library received a "Star" rating, earning three stars for 2012.

The Sachem Public Library was one of 14 others in Suffolk County to be honored with an American Star designation from the Library Journal, the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field, according to a blog post on Patch by the Suffolk Cooperative Library System.

“Library Journal’s Star designation is a prestigious honor,” said Suffolk Cooperative Library System Director Kevin Verbesey. “We are proud that Suffolk County libraries represent more than 5% of this year’s designees while comprising well less than 1% of all public libraries in the United States.”

The blog post reported that a variety of data is used in a ratings system to decide which libraries get the honor, including annual number of patron visits, circulation, program attendance, and public Internet computer use. The information is given to individual state library agencies annually and then compiled by a national organization.
