Sachem Patch Get Out Guide: Feb. 24

From a beer tasting dinner and a 'white-out' at the Nassau Coliseum to a 12 (or, if you choose, 24) hour movie marathon, here's what's going on this weekend!

It's Thursday and you don't know what to do this weekend. It doesn't matter if you're looking to prepare for the Oscars or meet a Jersey Shore star - if out of the norm is what you're looking for, Sachem Patch may be able to help!

1. BEER TASTING DINNER

Why Go: Love to drink beer? BrickHouse is serving a four course dinner (butternut squash soup, lobster cavatelli, porterhouse lamb chops, and apple strudel), with each course paired with a different brew.

2. JENNI “JWOWW” FARLEY BOOK SIGNING

Where/When: Book Revue, Huntington; Friday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Are you a Jersey Shore fan? Meet Long Island’s favorite guidette and pick up a copy of her book, The Rules According to JWOWW. A big crowd is anticipated, so be sure to get there early.

Pricing: Price of book.

3. BEST PICTURE SHOWCASE

Where/When: AMC Loews Stony Brook 17, Stony Brook; Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Why Go: Prepare for Sunday night’s Oscar awards by watching five of the ten films nominated for best picture! Kick things off with “Winter’s Bone” – it’ll be followed by “Black Swan,” “Inception,” “The Social Network,” and “The King’s Speech.”

Pricing: $35. A $10 AMC gift card is included.

(Is half not enough? New York City’s AMC Empire 25 in Times Square will be showing all ten films back-to-back-to-back-to…well… you get it... in a 24-hour movie marathon. Saturday, 10 a.m. through Sunday, 10 a.m. Tickets are priced at $50, which includes a free $20 AMC gift card.)

4. NEW YORK ISLANDERS VS. WASHINGTON CAPITALS

Where/When: Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale; Saturday, 7 p.m.

Why Go:  Wear white and help the Isles “white out the red” against Alexander Ovechkin and the high-flying Washington Capitals. Not only are the Isles playing some of their best hockey of the season, but they’re running a $20 ticket promo through North Shore-LIJ.

Pricing: $20-$165 (plus applicable fees)

5. RONAN TYNAN with HIBERNIAN FESTIVAL SINGERS

Where/When: Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, Patchogue; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: The classical Irish tenor has sang for Presidents George H.W. and W. Bush and is known for performing “God Bless America” at Yankees games. Get a larger taste of the talented Tynan in your own backyard.
