Sachem Library Unveils 2013-14 Budget

Operating budget shows an increase by roughly $388,000 over last year's numbers.

The Sachem Public Library released its proposed annual operating budget for the year 2013-14 in preparation for the April 9 public vote.

The library's budget nudged past the $10 million mark, to $10,152,252, which is $388,674 over last year's budget of $9,763,578. The 3.8% increase will translate into a 1.95% tax levy increase once the library uses its proposed fund balance and factors in grants and late fees projected for the year.

"It's been a fantastic year," Judith Willner, the library's director said. "This year we were designated a 3-star library [by the Library Journal]. It's been a wonderful year and we are looking forward to another great year," Willner said.
