Sachem Library Hosts Michael Jackson Tribute

Locals gather to see C.P. Lacey impersonate The King of Pop.

Both community room A and B at the Sachem Public Library were packed, shoulder-room only.  All eyes faced forward enamored by the silver sparkle sock wearing C. P. Lacey doing his best impression of hero Michael Jackson, one of his many celebrity impersonations.

The tribute to Michael Jackson, whose first death anniversary is on the 25th of this month, started with Lacey belting out "The Way You Make Me Feel" while dancing in true MJ fashion accompanied by three women from the audience.  Lacey was in full 1990's Michael style with tight black pants, a button down shirt, black loafers, dark aviators and, of course long black hair pulled into a ponytail with loose curl strands swaying across his pale face.

Lacey spoke in the low, soft voice reminiscent of the late Michael, but didn't refrain from shouting out plenty of "hee hees."

Fanatical Sachem residents clapped hands and snapped their fingers to "Man in the Mirror" as Lacey, or Jackson rather, gyrated across stage and fluttered through rows of audience members.

During "Bill Jean" Lacey's moonwalk was shown up my two young boys he invited on stage to freestyle dance with him. For this number Lacey walked offstage to dazzle the audience with more MJ gear: a black sequined blazer, black gloves and a white fedora hat.

After the performance Lacey took some time to answer a few audience members' questions including a young boy's cry for advice: "How do you do the moonwalk… it's complicated."

Lacey's discloses his best advice when reflecting on how he has been impersonating since 1983, "never ever quit your dreams."

Before the screening of "This Is It" there was an encore performance of "You Are Not alone," Lacey's favorite MJ song to perform, in which the audience euphorically swayed to the image of their favorite fallen hero.
