PHOTOS: Girl Scout Ashley Modafferi Pulled Onstage at Brookhaven Rock Concert

11-year-old Sagamore student receives accolades for holding Meet & Greet event for veterans.

The praise keeps rolling in for an 11-year-old Sachem student who organized and hosted a meet and greet event for area veterans.

Ashley Modafferi, a sixth-grader at Sagamore Middle School, was pulled up on stage at the 'Vets Rock' concert last Saturday at the Brookhaven Amphitheater and was greeted with wild applause for her efforts to thank veterans.

She also got a chance to meet with "American Idol" runner-up Lauren Alaina. Included in the concert billing was Ronnie Dunn, Lee Brice, Gloriana, The Mavericks, Lisa Matassa, Steve Holly, Jessie James, Marlee Scott and Rattlesnake Dawn.

In a story Patch reported on earlier this month, Modafferi was driven to hold the veterans meet and greet after she had seen a TV commercial about the high rate of suicides among veterans. As a project to earn her Bronze Award in the Girl Scouts, Modafferi organized, promoted and held the event on September 15 at the VFW Hall Post 400 on College Road in Selden.

Elected officials and local leaders turned out at the event, as did members of the community wishing to give their thanks to local veterans. Browse the photo gallery for pictures of the meet and greet, and Ashley's moment in the spotlight on stage at the Vets Rock concert.
