Patch Picks: Top 5 Places to Go Back-to-School Shopping

Sachem Patch lists stores where you can find great kids' clothes.

By now, the college students have left and in a couple of weeks, the kids will be returning to school. So, this is when the back-to-school shopping begins and there are a number of places in your neighborhood where you can shop for that first day of school outfit and anything else that your child wants to wear for fall.

Sachem Patch picks the Top 5 Places for Back-to-School Shopping:

  1. Kohl’s, 106 Ronkonkoma Avenue, Lake Ronkonkoma: Even if Kohl’s isn’t your first stop, it can be your last with their selection of brand name clothing at bargain prices. Before school starts they even have Super Saturday Sale dates to add an extra discount. With its late night hours, you can shop at Kohl’s until 10 or 11 p.m., after other stores have locked their doors.
  2. Kid City, 5801 Sunrise Highway, Holbrook: If you don’t get the name right away, you will notice the moment you step in this all-kid store in the Sunvet Mall that it has nothing for grown-ups. But, Kid City does have everything your elementary school student needs, from jeans to sweatshirts to backpacks, and many have fun characters on them that your children are very familiar with. Sponge Bob ring a bell? How about Dora the Explorer? That’s what I thought.
  3. H&M, 118 Smith Haven Mall, Lake Grove: For the kids that want a little something different and want to be in fashion, there’s H&M in the Smith Haven Mall. There are still some characters on the clothing, like Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse, but there are also stylish basics with great price tags.
  4. Old Navy, 5175 Sunrise Highway, Bohemia or 201 Independence Plaza, Selden: With skinny jeans and rompers for girls and Superman tees and distressed jeans for boys, Old Navy has fun and functional clothing for kids of all sizes. There are sales every week, including their “Item of the Week,” so you will be able to save a bundle while you buy a bundle. On their website you can find deals on school uniforms, if your child’s daily ensemble needs to include a blazer or a tie.
  5. Payless Shoe Source, 4 locations: You do pay less for shoes at Payless and you pay even less during their BOGO (Buy One, Get One) sale until September 6. They have casual and dressy shoes for boys, girls, women and men, and accessories like jewelry, pocketbooks and socks that are also part of the BOGO sale. And, if your little girl or boy is starting a dance class, they have ballet, tap and jazz shoes too.
