Fire trucks, ambulances and first responders filled the parking lot at Ward Melville High School Sunday morning as a large-scale emergency drill unfolded involving simulated smoke and student victims.

Calarco Leads For 7th Leg. Seat

Rob Calarco, D-Patchogue, looks to be keeping his seat as Suffolk County Legislator for the 7th district as he leads 56.61 percent to challenging candidate John Halverson, R-Patchogue, with 43.35 percent according to the Suffolk Board of Elections.

Both candidates are separated by 1,230 votes with Calarco having 5,251 to Halverson at 4,021 with three write-in ballots. The results are not yet official as absentee ballots are yet to be counted.

Sachem Football Player's Story Might Become Short Film

Michael Slattery, a special education student at Sachem High School North who is on the school's varsity football team, might have a short film made about him should he receive enough community votes in the NFL's Together We Make Football - Your Story contest.
