LIRR: Westbound Service Suspended on Ronkonkoma Line, Eastbound Delays

Freight train derailment in Brentwood Friday morning has caused havoc on Ronkonkoma branch.

The early morning derailment of a freight train in Brentwood early Friday morning is continuing to cause major headlines on the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma branch.

As of 5 p.m., westbound service remains suspended and buses are replacing trains between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville.

Eastbound service between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma has been restored using only one of two tracks in the area, but the LIRR said commuters "should expect some delays."

Those who need to travel westbound are advised to use the Montauk, Babylon and Port Jefferson branches.

LIRR crews have been working throughout the day to clear the derailed freight train and the re-railing process and any needed track repairs will continue after the evening rush, officials said.
