Library Picks: Murder, Mayhem and Mistletoe

These reads are on the shelf at the Sachem Public Library, waiting to be picked up.

Airport security lines, overcrowded stores, visits from the in-laws... If you find yourself fantasizing about violent acts rather than enjoying visions of sugar-plums, cuddle up with a cozy Christmas mystery to release some holiday tension. 

Gingerbread Cookie Murder, by Joanne Fluke, Laura Levine, and Leslie Meier (2010): This delicious trio of mysteries contains Joanne Fluke's Gingerbread Cookie Murder, Laura Levine's The Dangers of Gingerbread Cookies, and Leslie Meier's Gingerbread Cookies and Gunshots. Complete with recipes for the home baker.

Busy Body: An Agatha Raisin Mystery, by M.C. Beaton (2010): Cantankerous but loveable Cotswolds detective Agatha Raisin is called in to investigate the murder of the town's Scrooge-like public safety officer.

Christmas at The Mysterious Bookshop, edited by Otto Penzler (2010): The owner of the Mysterious Bookshop in New York City has commissioned an original Christmas story from a leading mystery writer each year for the past 17 years, with the stipulation that at least part of the action must take place at his bookstore. These 17 stories have now been compiled in this delightful collection, whose contributors include Mary Higgins Clark, Lawrence Block, Anne Perry, Ed McBain, and Donald L. Westlake.

Holly and Homicide: A Domestic Bliss Mystery, by Leslie Caine (2009): When a local building inspector is found strangled with a strand of Christmas lights, interior designer Erin Sullivan is accused of murder, and must turn detective to clear her name. Contains holiday home decorating tips.
