Jeeps Deliver Toys From Farmingville to Children's Hospital

Hundreds of toys delivered for children staying at Stony Brook Children's Hospital.

Hundreds of toys were delivered by a caravan of Jeep Wranglers driving from Farmingville to Stony Brook University Children’s Hospital on Saturday.

Several members of the Long Island Wrangler group drove from the Kmart in Farmingville to the hospital on Saturday afternoon on the Long Island Expressway and Nicolls Road.

Tony Constantino, 23 of Coram and president of the group, organized Saturday’s caravan.

“We wanted to try to give back because that’s the personality of a person that owns a Jeep Wrangler,” Constantino said citing that he has noticed members of that car community often want to help others.

Constantino said that the group filled four of the vans completely full of toys

Ken Miller, 26 of Shoreham, is a member of the group and told Patch that the route was picked in order to not impede traffic.

“We picked that spot because it was the most convenient to caravan there,” Miller said.

Constantino said that starting at the Kmart allowed for those who still needed to pick up a toy to run into the store’s toy department.

Miller said that the hospital is close to him, as he himself was a patient for two years when he was diagnosed with cancer. He has since become cancer free.

The toys are being distributed to children throughout the year, Brook Rose, the hospital’s certified childlife specialist, said in a Newsday report.
