I FISH NY Offers Free Freshwater Fishing Clinic

On Wednesday, July 9, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) I FISH NY program, together with the Town of Brookhaven Department of Parks, Recreation and Sports, will offer a free freshwater fishing clinic at the Town of Brookhaven Beach at Lake Ronkonkoma from 6 p.m. until sunset.

Free loaner fishing rods and bait will be available, courtesy of I FISH NY. The event will begin with basic instruction on freshwater fish species, fishing regulations and casting techniques. No fishing license is needed.

“The popularity of free freshwater fishing clinics continue to grow throughout Long Island,” DEC Regional Directory Peter A. Scully said. “Free clinics of this nature are rare opportunities where the family can truly rediscover what their local area has to offer and potentially develop freshwater fishing into a hobby that provides a lifetime of fun and relaxation.”
