Holtsville Ecology Center Activists To Promote Rally at Today's Nor'Easter

Volunteer group will be wearing blue shirts, passing out flyers to attend Sunday's rally to stop site from closing.

A group of citizens behind the push to keep the Holtsville Ecology Center open will be at today's Sachem East vs. Sachem North Nor'Easter game to raise awareness of its rally tomorrow.

The group, led by Dari Rudge, Barb Stenby and others will be at the game, wearing blue T-shirts and handing out flyers inviting the community to attend Sunday's rally, which will be held near the playgrounds at the site. They will also be distributing petitions to save the ecology site from the Brookhaven Town budget's chopping block.

Since the news broke that the town was mulling a full closure of the site, the pushback to keep the site open has burgeoned. Last week, the Facebook page "Save the Holtsville Wildlife & Ecology Center" was launched, and has garnered more than 8,000 likes. The movement has the support of the Brookhaven Wildlife Center and the Department of Highways, to name a few.
