From sports to the stage, check out some kid-friendly events in our new feature!

You’ve found our new Grab & Go Kids Planner! We’re glad you’ve decided to stop by!

What we’ve done here is assemble a calendar of kid-friendly, fun for the family activities as well as new places to try out with children.

Each Wednesday, we'll give you the info on five of the best family activities or events taking place during the upcoming week.

You're time-pressed enough; We're happy to do the research, finding great things for you to do as well as places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. What do you want to see? We want to hear from you!

Have your young ones go sledding, watch basketball, hone their acting skills, strive for checkmate, or strike that wiffleball — pick and choose from this week’s best bet events.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. SLEDDING ON BALD HILL

When/Where: Anytime/Farmingville, near Ocean Avenue

Why Go: Take advantage of the recent (and upcoming) snowfall and head downhill on one of Long Island’s sledding hotspots.

Pricing: Free! Bring your best sled.

When/Where: Friday 2/4 at 6:15 p.m. at Sachem High School East

Why Go: What better way to show your hometown pride than to cheer on the Flaming Arrows in one of their last home games of the season? 

Pricing: Free! Just bring your Sachem spirit.

3. THEATRE GAMES (Ages 6-8)

When/Where: Saturdays beginning 2/5 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Gateway Playhouse

Why Go: If your child wants to scratch that acting itch, he can do so at this 14 week workshop which aims to teach the fundamentals of the art. The program concludes with a short play.

Pricing: $245 for the 14 week program

4.  CHESS OVER HOT CHOCOLATE

When/Where: Saturday 2/5 (and every Saturday in February) from 2-3 p.m. at the Sachem Public Library

Why Go: Escape from the cold and challenge your mind in an informal, fun setting

Pricing: Free! Hot chocolate, snacks, and chess sets will be provided.

When/Where: Monday 2/7 and Wednesday 2/9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at in Ronkonkoma

Why Go: Show your young child they key to an active lifestyle and have a little fun yourself.

Pricing: $75 for one session a week, $125 for two sessions each week. Program runs for ten weeks.
