Get Ready to Conquer the Hills in Farmingville

First annual run/walk will take place March 19.

The first annual Conquer the Hills Fun Run/Walk will be held in Farmingville March 19.

With streets like Adirondack and Summit Place taking up much of the 5K course, the race will be a challenge.

All proceeds benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is a Fun run/walk and is not timed. It’s the perfect way to challenge your fitness, whether it’s your first event or your 50th, according to race organizers.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) so grateful to have such dedicated volunteers who put on great events for us in the community,” said Katie Stockhammer, a Sachem community resident, cancer survivor and race organizer.  “The Conquer the Hills 5K will prove to be an excellent event to raise funds to cure blood cancer. As a 12-year survivor myself, it is tremendously meaningful to bring awareness and funds to this great cause.  I am so thankful for all of the hard work of Jenn Ross and Diane Falvey, as they are out there truly saving lives.

“The funds raised at this event will go towards research and financial aid for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease.  In the past year, 19 of the last 39 drugs approved by the FDA were approved for blood cancer therapy, and most were funded in part by LLS.   Almost all of these drugs are being tested in treatment for other cancers or diseases.”
