Gallery: Hurricane Sandy's Aftermath

A photo essay of the devastation in the Sachem community.

Patch spent the days after the storm documenting some of the downed trees, power lines, home damage, and speaking to residents about their experiences.

Large portions of the Sachem community is still without power, including Holbrook and Holtsville, where downed lines have not yet been repaired. In the meantime, Sachem School District has cancelled school for the remainder of the week. The district has not yet made a decision about how to make up for the lost days.

Many of the area businesses are back in operation as well, including most eateries along Main Street in Holbrook and Portion Road in Ronkonkoma.
