Freezing Rain Forecasted for Monday Morning Commute

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Long Island.

Long Island is about to get Mother Nature's form of "salt in the wound" – another wintry event before the week across the Sachem area gets a chance to start.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, effective on Monday from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., and potentially causing a headache for a morning commute.

The forecast is calling for another weather system to push across the area tonight, bringing a bout of freezing rain, mixed with sleet and snow, during the Monday morning commute from 3 a.m. until about 9 a.m., when the system should turn to all rain.

Ice accumulations are expected to only be a trace amount, but a thin sheet of ice is enough to cause spin-outs or cause other malfunctions on mass transit lines, and motorists are advised to take precautions on their trips Monday morning.

Untreated roadways, the NWS advised, could become slick and icy, but conditions are expected to improve throughout the day.
