Flights to Resume at Long Island MacArthur Airport
Airline flights to resume before noon on Friday for most carriers.
Flights are resuming in and out of Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma as of Friday late morning, but travelers are being advised to check with carriers for latest flight information as the winter snowstorm Hercules moves off after leaving 8.9 inches of snow at the airport.
The latest travel advisory, as of 8 a.m. Friday, noted that Southwest was to resume service with a 11:40 a.m. flight arrival, U.S. Airways Express to resume with a 11:20 a.m. arrival and PenAir will resume service with a 6:40 p.m. flight.
Islip Town officials told Patch in an email Friday morning that a blizzard warning remains in effect for the town until 1 p.m.

As Patch reported Thursday Southwest Airlines and US Airways will be holding a relaxed cancellation policy for flights affected by the snowstorm.
Southwest on its website states that customers holding reservations to and from MacArthur through Friday at 1 p.m. are able to re-book in the original class of service or travel standby within 14 days of their original date of travel with no additional fees. Customers who purchased online can reschedule their travel plans through the website, and others can re-book by calling 1-800-435-9792. Customers can also request a refund for any flight that is cancelled.

US Airways had posted a similar advisory for Islip, waiving the change fee policies for Thursday and Friday flights. Flights can be re-booked to Jan. 3 to Jan. 5. However customers will have to pay if there is a difference in fare.
