Farmingville Family's Backyard Rink Freezes For Fun

The bitter cold hitting the Sachem area is a plus for a Farmingville family that is able to make use of their backyard ice skating rink now that the weather freezes it up.

Brian Wasson, who messaged Patch last year about the rink, sent in photos from this year's skating. Wasson said the family has been able to get in many hours of skating in December and January, however the recent snow storm did create a bit of a mess from about three inches of slush under a few inches of snow.

"Slush froze up and then had to resurface it," Wasson said. "Five hours of cleanup and prep time and then an overnight re-freeze and we skated on it all day Saturday and then again Sunday morning even in the rain."

Would you want to set up your own backyard ice skate rink? Talk about it in the comments below this post.
