The upcoming film Lone Survivor, which depicts Navy SEAL Michael Murphy, had a special early screening for friends and family of Murphy Monday at the Regal Cinemas in Ronkonkoma.

Lt. Michael Murphy, of Patchogue, was a part of a four-member SEAL team, and was shot on June 29, 2005 while on duty. Murphy has been posthumously honored with a warship, numerous awards, a previously released film and even a workout named after him.

According to The New York Daily News, around 400 friends and family of Murphy attended the screening, which according to Moviefone will have a limited release on Dec. 27 and nationwide release on Jan. 10. Actor Taylor Kitsch plays Murphy, and attended Monday’s screening.

Murphy’s father, Daniel Murphy, describes the movie in the report as a “real emotional roller coaster” that was difficult to watch. Daniel Murphy first saw the film at a small screening with director Peter Berg in September.

“But on the other hand, I think the movie on the big screen brings not just Michael and his SEAL team the attention of the American people, (but) shows what the men and women of our armed forces go through every day,” Daniel Murphy said in the report.

A trailer for the film is embedded in the media gallery of this post. Click here for the original report on The New York Daily News.
