Civic Group Presents Possible Land Use For Bavarian Inn

Nesconset-Sachem Civic Association joined by Suffolk Legislator Kennedy to discuss land possibilities.

Local leaders and interested parties were treated to a presentation tonight from the Nesconset-Sachem Civic Association and the Commerdinger Group that mapped out some ideas to join the parks surrounding Lake Ronkonkoma.

The presentation spelled out some of the current and future improvements being made to the historic Commerdinger house located in the W.S. Commerdinger Jr County Park. 

Transitioning to Suffolk County Leg. John M. Kennedy, the conversation centered on how best to use the land currently occupied by the shuttered Bavarian Inn. According to Kennedy, the owner and the lender for the property are $300,000 in arrears on back taxes and have missed the February 19 deadline to make good on payment.

Kennedy said they have received a letter from the Bavarian camp stating their desire to pay the back debt, but the county intends on rejecting the application and taking control of the property.

  • Rebuilding the fishing pier destroyed by a storm
  • Instituting a kayac/canoeing station
  • Installing a band shell for outdoor classical music programs
  • Building a premenade or boardwalk along the shore of the lake.

The association adjourned the meeting by asking for the community's input on what they would like to see happen to the land. They also discussed placing a single group as a spearheading liason going forward.
