10 Places to Pick Up the Perfect Christmas Tree

From stores to farmstands to cut-your-own, here's a local guide to scouting the perfect tree.

With Thanksgiving behind us and the turkey leftovers almost gone, it's time to think about decorating your homes for the holidays. For many families that means the search is on for the perfect Christmas tree. Whether you want to cut your own, buy a pre-cut fresh tree, or find a pre-lit lifelike Christmas tree, here is a local guide for where to go.

Cut Your Own

Taking the family to the forest or a Christmas tree farm to cut your own tree is a sure way of guaranteeing the freshness of your real Christmas tree. At Carter's Christmas Tree Farm at 123 N. Country Road in Miller Place (631-331-4699), you choose and you cut your own tree. Pre-tagging is allowed and saws are provided. It's open from Nov. 20 through Dec. 19 on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Christmas tree varieties include Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, and Scotch Pine.
