10 Businesses Open on Christmas Day

Forgot to pick up milk and cookies for Santa Claus? Burned the Christmas day turkey? No sweat. Many businesses, from restaurants to entertainment, in Sachem will be open for Christmas.

Places to grab a bite

IHop, in Lake Grove, has traditionally served friends and families on the holiday. The business will have a special menu with turkey and stuffing. Although, employees say it can be a busy day, it is a supernumerary meal, if the turkey goes dry in the oven.

The Holbrook Dinner, on Old Patchogue-Holbrook Road, is a Sachem favorite and will be open for breakfast and lunch on Christmas. With their standard menu, the diner will be serving the usual, loyal customers and those who are visiting Sachem for Christmas.

Chinese food restaurants will be open on Christmas, which were made famous in the Christmas movie classic, "A Christmas Story." If you do not celebrate Christmas, or do not have plans for the holiday, Chinese food can be a tempting substitute for dinner.

There are several Chinese food restaurants in the Sachem area, so there are plenty to choose from to have a meal on the holiday, or use as a safety-net if you, too, had your turkey eaten by the neighbor's dogs. Who knows, maybe they will sing holiday music to your family during dinner ... just like in the movie.

Last Minute Shopping

Drug stores, like CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid, stay open until the wee hours of Christmas Eve night and reopen the morning of Christmas day for last-minute presents. Forgot to get that special someone a holiday present? Even if you need to buy extra dog food for the four-legged friend at home, these businesses will be open.

CVS is open 24-hours Christmas Eve and Christmas. Walgreens will be open normal store hours on Christmas, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but have extended hours Christmas Eve, until 10 p.m. Rite-Aid will be open on Christmas until 3 p.m.  The pharmacies at these businesses will be closed for the holiday.

Good ole' 7 Eleven will be open for normal hours — 24-hours — on Christmas. It can be convenient if the roaring fire runs low on wood, or if you need an excuse to get away from those loving relatives, who come around twice a year, which is already too much. For those who travel on Christmas, 7 Eleven can become handy when pulling over to stretch those legs.  Most gas stations, like Shell, will be open on Christmas, too. 

Entertain Yourself

Traditionally, movie theaters are open on Christmas. And traditionally, Island 16 and Regal Cinema will be open. Regal, located at 565 Portion Road, in Ronkonkoma, will be open until Christmas Eve and Christmas. On Christmas Eve their last movie showing will be 8 p.m. Island 16, located at 185 Morris Avenue, in Holtsville, is open every day of the year, no matter the holiday.
