Historic Day in Farmingville

On September 8, 2013, the Farmingville Historical Society unveiled a roadside historic maker, made possible by a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, for the Bald Hill Schoolhouse built in 1850. After closing its doors to the children of the Farmingville community in 1929, the schoolhouse has longed for new life. This year marked the 128th Annual Picnic for the Reunion Association, descendants of students who attended class at the one-room schoolhouse, and it seemed fitting to honor Farmingville's rich history with the dedication of the roadside marker with members of this organization.
The Farmingville Historical Society is proud to announce that the Bald Hill Schoolhouse will open its doors once again to children of local schools. This November, Lynwood Elementary School’s kindergarten classes will visit this landmark and experience what a day of school was like 163 years ago.
