Holbrook Carnival, Movie Night Leads Today's News In Sachem

Here's a list of some of the headlines, events and news developments in Sachem for this Thursday, August 15, 2013.

The Holbrook Carnival Begins Tonight. Head over to Seneca Middle School tonight for the kickoff of the Holbrook Carnival & Craft Fair. Rides for children of all ages, games, live music and fireworks dominate this four-day extravaganza. This is one of the best attended Sachem events of the year. Gates open at 6 p.m.  

Ronkonkoma Movie Night. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department will once again try to get mother nature to cooperate for a nice evening of movie-watching under the stars. Head over to the department's back lawn for a screening of "We Bought A Zoo," starring Matt Damon. The move starts at 8:30 p.m. Of course, weather permitting.

Bruno's Sold. In case you missed it, Sachem Patch reported that Bruno's Village Restaurant on Hawkins Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma has sold to one of the principal owners of Lily Flanagan's in Babylon. Bruno's has served the Sachem community for more than 50 years. 

LIRR Collects Bids For Second Track. The MTA Long Island Rail Road will close its submission deadline today for contractors interested in vying to provide design/build services for the agency's Second Track project on the Ronkonkoma branch. The agency will receive all of the sealed proposals by 2 p.m. Second Track is a construction project that will run another set of tracks from Ronkonkoma to Farmingdale in an effort to increase frequency of trains and cut down on delays. 

Sidewalk Chalk and Ice Cream. Head over to the Sachem Public Library tonight at 7 p.m. for a family-oriented evening of sidewalk chalk art and ice cream. The library will provide the chalk and attendees will show of their artistic flair by decorating the concrete paths that wind through the Inside/Out Garden. Ice cream to be served after the scribbling. Meet by the garden.
