Yovino Earns Academic All-America Honors

Sachem East alum piles up awards in senior year.

The honors continue for Sachem East alum Tiffany Yovino, a senior defender at Hofstra University.

She was named first-team ESPN Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Holtsville native is only the sixth player in Hofstra history (any sport) to earn first-team distinction.

Yovino, who carries a 3.74 grade point average as a dual major in history and early childhood education, was named the CAA Player of the Year this fall and is a four-time All-CAA selection.

The Pride finished 19-3 on the year, setting a school record for wins in a season, and had an 18-game winning streak at one point, which was by far the longest in program history (the old record was 10 games). Hofstra was also a perfect 11-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association this year, the first unbeaten and untied team in league play since William & Mary was 8-0 in 1998. The Pride's 1-0 NCAA Tournament win over Connecticut was also its second NCAA win in program history, along with a 1-0 win over Ohio State in 2007.

Yovino was part of the two winningest seasons in program history as well (19 this season, 18-4 as a freshman in 2007), and started every game in her entire career.
