Week 8 Preview: Sachem @ Bay Shore

Arrows looking to finish regular season 8-0.

With a win, Sachem improves to 8-0 for the second consecutive season and just the third time in the 49-year history of the program.

The 1983 team started 7-0-1 and finished 9-0-1. The 1996 team finished 9-1 and the 2009 team finished 10-1.

It should be business as usual for the Arrows, who have had no trouble handling the hardest opponents in Division I, let alone a 4-3 Bay Shore squad that started the season as the eighth seed.

The last time these teams played was the first year Fred Fusaro took over the program at Sachem ... that's right, 1971. The game resulted in a 14-14 tie. Since Bay Shore dropped to a lower division due to enrollment, the Marauders did not have a chance to play Sachem until this season.

Venue: Bay Shore High School

Game time: Oct. 30, 1:30 p.m.

In-game battles: Bay Shore hasn't scored less than 25 points in a game in their previous seven games. They also put up 28 in a loss to Floyd, as well as 25 in a loss to Longwood. Their spread offense, coupled with misdirection, presents a problem for some defenses. Then again, Sachem's defense is not just some defense - it's the best in Division I.

"Offensively they've caused some problems for people," said Sachem head coach Dave Falco. "We need to be ready to play."

Who should Sachem stop in this game? Half back Karl Allison has rushed for 1,000 yards this season. Quarterback Kevin Cox can throw and run.
