Week 1 Preview: Sachem North vs. Pat-Med

Local rivalry kicks off 2010 football season.

Had Sachem East not been hatched in the fall of 2004, Patchogue-Medford would remain Sachem's biggest rival, especially on the football field. The games have historically been good, dating back to 1977 when the Flaming Arrows beat Pat-Med to win their first Suffolk County title.

As a seventh seed to start the year, Pat-Med is recovering from last season's 2-6 campaign. Sachem is on a different level completely.

In-game battles: Pat-Med will have its hands full. There is little hope in containing Sachem's skill players. Look for QB/DB Kevin Gerard and TE/DE Chris Makulik to make a mild difference for the Raiders. Sachem's line play and backfield should have no problem putting up some easy points early and coasting in the second half.
