Sachem North’s Matt Relevo is currently in the running for the Z100 Hometown Hero contest. The winner gets will perform at Z100 in the Coca-Cola All Access Lounge.

Relevo currently sits in third place (as of Tuesday evening) with 2,564 votes. The leader has 3,977 votes.

He was inspired to be a musician through his parents who sang in church choirs when he was younger.

“I always watched my dad play guitar and always wanted to learn,” he said on the Eventful.com voting site. “My dads attempts to teach me were good but my patience for practicing was bad.”

He gave up briefly, but started playing again eighth grade.

“Then soon enough I found my love for singing,” he said. “I loved to do it but never thought I was good, so only showed to family but now performing is something I love.”
